Maxime Hons (born 2002, Bree) is a young female artist creating visual arts with topics that focus on the experience of being a young woman today and the societal struggles surrounding this experience. As a queer woman, most of the themes she adresses involve inclusivity, feminism, identity and self exploration. Her fascination with nature and the human body is a running theme throughout her work. Most of her projects are centered around philosophical questions, intertwined with art history and mythology.
Her self-expression mainly comes through dance and theatre arts, therefore she loves working with other creators, like dancers. She finds inspiration in other media, like film. In her work ‘Threading the skin’ she critiques the beauty industry for putting pressure on women to stay young and pretty, which was highly influenced by ‘The Substance’ from Corralie Fargeat. By staging scenes, she seeks to create a more poetic and cinematic style.
