Lone(some)
This is a project I made during my first education: a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with the subject art education. I started this project with the idea of how loneliness can translate into places. With a more poetic approach, I re-imagined scenes that I actually came across during my travels in Italy, which evoked these feelings for me. The recreated scenes were presented in video work and photography. Alongside these images I created an installation with clay and a suitcase, in which I wrote a poem (in Dutch) related to loneliness. The claywork is a bag of fries, but it is made very organically like it was discarded and only visible for those who look intentively. The poem is written with an ink that's only a shade darker than the inside of the suitcase, symbolising how often things go unnoticed. These are all traces humans leave in nature, that are often not looked at.
I made this work with my iPhone without any proper equipment. This explains why the quality of the video and photography isn't that well. The project was made before I started my photography studies, but I think nonetheless it shows my conceptual thinking skills and ways to incorporate different media into one project.
I presented the work in one room, like a mini exhibition. The videos were shown as a projection and the photographs were hung in frames on an extra wooden wall. The curtains were a back drop for the installations. The lightning in the room wasn't perfect of course and yet again the quality could have been better, but it was the first time for me to present my work like this with a jury.
